LINKS TO TECHNICAL SITES

I plan to keep adding more Useful Sites as I find them. Please check back and make suggestions through my "Contact" page.

A. Useful Data and Technical Information

  1. Beilstein Handbook of Organic Chemistry - The Classic Handbook in both German and English.
  2. Colour Index International - Published jointly by the Society of Dyers and Colourists and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists. The "Colour Index" is the internationally recognized publication for technical and commercial data on colorants. It is the classic guide for anyone who needs to know details of commercially available dyestuffs and their technical properties. The Colour Index defines the system of classifying colorants according to their area of application, which is known throughout the world as the Colour Index Generic Name.
  3. Explosion Dynamics Laboratory (Cal Tech) - Thermodynamic data are necessary for performing equilibrium chemistry and finite-rate chemical kinetics calculations. These data typically provide the thermodynamic properties (enthalpy, entropy, and specific heat) of a species as a function of temperature. Computing and fitting thermodynamic properties is a research activity in its own right. This page aims to provide data available from public sources either directly (in the form of downloadable files) or indirectly, as hyperlinks to other sites.
  4. Dielectric Constants - ASI Instruments' compilation of Dielectric Constants.
  5. Electrochemistry - ESTIR (Electrochemical Science and Technology Information Resource) site contains varied information about electrocemistry in 13 sections including links to freeware, data and bibliographies.
  6. IUPAC Nomenclature - Courtesy of ACD. IUPAC Rules for Nomenclature of Organic Chemistry.
  7. Nuclear Data - From Group T-2 at LANL. This comprehensive site includes:
    1. High Energy Reaction Data;
    2. Nuclear Q-Values;
    3. Neutron Data from ENDF/B-VI (US), JENDL-3.2 (Japanese), JEF-2.2 (European), BROND-2.2 (Russian and FSU), CENDL-2 (Chinese);
    4. Charged Particle Cross Sections;
    5. Radiactive Ion Beam Data; and
    6. ENDF/B-VI Photoatomic Data.
  8. NIST WebBook - NIST data WebBook. Contains Thermochemical data for thousands of compounds.
  9. Polymer Macrogalleria - A great educational site from the Department of Polymer Science of the University of Southern Mississippi about all kinds of polymers. See the Five Levels of information on the lower half of this Web Site.
  10. Quantum Chemistry (A Brief Introduction) - A great introduction to Quantum Chemistry courtesy of Georgia Tech. It gives a particularly good introduction to the Born-Oppenheimer Approximation and the separation of the Electronic and Nuclear Hamiltonians. This is especially relvant to Nuclear Chemists (like me!) that must understand the quantum mechanics of both molecules and the nucleus of atoms.

B. Organizations

  1. American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists - The world’s largest society devoted to the advancement of textile chemistry.
  2. American Chemical Society - The professional organization of degreed chemists in the United States. This is the American "partner" to the Society of Dyers and Colourists of Great Britain.
  3. American Institute of Chemical Engineers - Founded in 1908, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) is a nonprofit organization providing leadership to the chemical engineering profession. The IChE provides forums to advance the theory and practice of the profession, upholds high professional standards and ethics, and supports excellence in education.
  4. Chemical Consultants Network - The ONLY group of Chemical Consultants that is jointly supported by the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. These are the two largest and most significant professional organizations of chemists and chemical engineers in the world.
  5. Society of Dyers and Colourists - The world's only professional society devoted exclusively to colour. This is the British "partner" to the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.
  6. Visual Indicators Council - The Visual Indicators Council (VIC) is a non-profit organization whose primary function is to disseminate information and promote the use of non-electronic visual sensors to the engineering and scientific community. All products represented by the VIC share the common characteristic of revealing some sort of environmental, catalytic, atmospheric, or physical change, or state, by virtue of a visible color change.
